Samsung is developing a fresh Galaxy watch that swaps Wear OS for a custom RTOS, promising a week‑long battery life and a price between the Galaxy Fit 4 and Galaxy Watch FE.
Samsung’s New RTOS Watch Surfaces
South Korean tech giant Samsung is renowned for its wide‑ranging product lineup, which includes popular wearables. The company recently rolled out its flagship Galaxy Watch models, but a hidden discovery hints at another project in the works.
Found Inside the Galaxy Wearable Code
Diving into the Galaxy Wearable app’s source code, developers spotted a reference labeled “galaxy_rtos_watch.” This clue points to an entirely new device that sits above the budget Galaxy Fit 4 yet remains below the premium Galaxy Watch FE in price and positioning.
A Watch That Skips Wear OS
The upcoming model is currently codenamed “Galaxy Aero.” While its screen shape—whether round, rectangular, or square—is still unknown, the code confirms the presence of a display.
Why the Switch to RTOS Is Significant
Instead of Google’s Wear OS, Samsung plans to power this watch with a real‑time operating system (RTOS). This approach mirrors earlier budget wearables like the Galaxy Fit 4, where power‑efficient processors work seamlessly with the lightweight OS. The result could be a device that lasts an entire week on a single charge, a stark contrast to the daily charging cycle of typical Wear OS watches.

Leaks suggest the watch will include standard sensors such as an accelerometer, gyroscope, and heart‑rate monitor. Pricing is expected to be higher than the Galaxy Fit 4 but lower than the Galaxy Watch FE. No official launch date has been disclosed yet.
